Homens Acusados de Estupro Coletivo São Inocentados

A Suprema Corte do Paquistão inocentou, na semana passada, cinco homens de um grupo de seis acusados de estuprar coletivamente uma mulher.  A ordem de estupro foi dada por um conselho de anciãos da vila onde viviam.

O estupro aconteceu na província de Punjab, no leste do país, em 2002.  A vítima é uma mulher analfabeta que teria sido castigada dessa forma porque seu irmão de 12 anos teria tido um caso uma mulher de um poderoso clã, trazendo, assim, vergonha para o clã. Ainda hoje a vítima sofre ameaças de morte feitas a ela e a sua família.

Collective Rapists Are Declared Not Guilty

The Supreme Court of Pakistan declared innocent five men of a group of six who were accused of collectively raping a woman. A Council of Elders of the village where they lived ordered the rape.

The case took place in 2002 in the province of Punjab, east of Pakistan. The victim is an illiterate woman who was punished because her 12 year brother supposedly had an affair with a woman from a powerful clan, therefore bringing shame to the clan. The victim, as well as her family, are still under life threat.
